The controls for combat and building in the mobile version of Fortnite are as follows:

You can switch between Combat Mode and Build Mode by tapping the Build/Combat icon to the right of your HUD's inventory.

MOVEMENT: Use your left thumb to drag the on-screen "joystick" in the direction you want to move. You can double-tap this touch icon to enable auto-run.

AIMING & SHOOTING: Drag your fingers around the screen to move the camera, and tap anywhere in your line of vision to fire your equipped weapon.

INVENTORY: Your inventory appears at the bottom of your screen, with six boxes - one for your gathering tool and five for weapons or items. Select an item to use by tapping on it, or tap the backpack icon to access your inventory management screen.

EditBuild Mode Controls

Enter or exit build mode on mobile by tapping the Combat/Build icon next to your HUD's inventory.

Object Select: The build menu replaces your inventory when in Build mode. Select the structure you want to build from the toolbar at the bottom of your HUD.

Material Select: Choose between using wood, stone or metal by tapping the corresponding icon above the build menu.

Adjust and Place: Use the 'Rotate' button in the top-right section of your HUD to adjust what direction your piece faces. The Edit button sits to the left of Rotate, press it to select sections of your item you wish to remove. Once you've decided what you wish to build, press the Place button below these edit buttons to build the item.
