This Swedish Home Has the Most Glorious Pink Kitchen

Christin Haussman; her husband, Lars; and their two children, Calle and Emma, live just north of Stockholm, Sweden, in a house that they describe as “an eclectic mix of new, old, colorful, bohemian, paired with the odd DIY and handmade pieces … a fun patchwork kind of house.” As far as DIY projects go, Christin says that her proudest roll-your-sleeves-up moment in the whole house is hands-down the kitchen — which just so happens to be pink!

“Because of a not-big-enough budget and not being able to make long-term decisions about colors, I opted for chalk paint to give our 20-ish year-old kitchen a new life!”

Christin has good reason for embarking on the entire project herself and most of it has to do with her being realistic: “I’d love a big, brand new kitchen or bathroom (who doesn’t right?). But what if I spend a fortune and don’t want to live with it for the next 15+ years?!” A DIY project is less expensive and, therefore, less of a risk.

Instead of refurbishing the entire kitchen, Christin spend most of her efforts on painting. She painted the bottom cabinets and appliances in a dusty pink, and she even painted the worktop. She also added that great gold-hued hardware.

For another DIY touch, Christin used a stencil to add a pattern to the backsplash. Her motto? “Just go with the flow and make your house your home … It’s not important what others think, as long as it cheers you up the moment you step in.”

As eclectic as this pink, polka-dotted kitchen is, the wackiest part of the whole house isn’t even in the kitchen: The family put in a real live skate park. INSIDE THE HOUSE!
