UPDATE, June 17: Gal Gadot has now released a new image of her in costume from Wonder Woman 1984, the now-filming sequel to the 2017 DC superhero movie blockbuster.

Gadot revealed the photo on Twitter; it can be seen in the slideshow below.

The original report from June 13th follows.

Warner Bros. has officially announced the commencement of principal photography on Wonder Woman 1984, the sequel to the 2017 blockbuster based on the DC Comics superhero. They also released two official still phots from the movie.

Gal Gadot once again stars in Wonder Woman 2, which co-stars Kristen Wiig as the film's main villain, The Cheetah. Pedro Pascal also stars.

And, in something of a shock to those who may not follow geek movie rumors closely, Chris Pine returns as pilot Steve Trevor, Diana's love interest who appeared to die at the end of the first Wonder Woman movie. As revealed in the photo below, Steve remains as young as Diana even though the story takes place roughly seventy years after the events of the first movie.

Behind the scenes, Patty Jenkins returns to direct Wonder Woman 1984. She also produces the film alongside Gadot, Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder, and Stephen Jones. Rebecca Roven Oakley, Richard Suckle, Wesley Coller, Geoff Johns and Walter Hamada are the executive producers.

The film's director of photography is Matthew Jensen, the production designer is Aline Bonetto (Amélie), the costume designer is Lindy Hemming, and the editor is Richard Pearson.

Filming will take place in Washington, D.C., Alexandria, Virginia, and in the UK, Spain and the Canary Islands.

Wonder Woman 1984 opens November 1, 2019.
