Battlefield 5 Reveal

Battlefield 5 has been confirmed, with its official reveal event giving us a first look at details on May 23.

You can watch the official Battlefield 5 reveal, hosted by Trevor Noah, right here on IGN. Joining Noah was Battlefield 5 producer Lars Gustavsson, producer Ryan McArthur, and senior producer Andreas Morell to discuss more about Battlefield 5's WW2 setting, premium pass news, and details about new and returning game modes and war stories.

Battlefield 5 Premium Pass

Battlefield 5 will not have a premium pass this time around, meaning major post-release content will be available to players for free. Read more about its replacement system, Tides of War, in our Battlefield 5 news reveal.

Battlefield 5 WW2 Setting

Battlefield 5 is set during World War 2 and will tell smaller stories about theaters of war rarely explored in WW2 games.

Battlefield 5 Maps

We didn't get a chance to see or learn more about specific Battlefield 5 maps during its official reveal, but Battlefield 5 will be at EA Play next month for E3 2018, where people will get the chance to go hands-on with one of its new game modes. Stay tuned to IGN for more info as it rolls in.

Battlefield 5 Single-Player

EA has confirmed Battlefield 5 will have a single-player mode, using the phrasing “single-player stories” during an earnings report and “War Stories” in a recent tweet – a reference to Battlefield 1’s vignette-style single-player missions. During Battlefield 5's official reveal event, we got our first look at some of the characters featured in these war stories, including a young resistance fighter from Norway.

Battlefield 5 Battle Royale

Rumors that Battlefield 5 will feature a battle royale mode have been brewing for about a month. An anonymous source told VentureBeat that even if the team finds a way to make the mode work for Battlefield 5’s mechanics, Battlefield 5 might not ship with a battle royale mode when it launches in October.

Battlefield 5 will not have a pure battle royale mode after all, according to its official reveal event. Instead, its expanded Operations mode Grand Operations will feature an extra round known as Last Stand – think of it like a sudden death round. Learn more in the section below where we go over Battlefield 5's new game modes.

Battlefield 5 New Modes - Grand Operations and Co-op

Operations mode makes a return in Battlefield 5 as the even bigger Grand Operations, which will feature an extra round for tight games called Last Stand. During Last Stand rounds – which acts as a sudden death for close matches – players fight until there's only one left standing, which determines the winner.

Battlefield 5 will also have a new co-op mode called Combined Arms. Read more about it in our Battlefield 5 news reveal.
